Jack and Bradley running for Middlesex
AIMS
We continue to focus on the long-term development of the athletes but we start to do so with a focus on preparing for specific competitions. This is a smaller group allowing us to give athletes more individual attention. Working with the athletes in this group we….
- produce individual training and racing programmes aimed at performing well in target races
- continue to develop aerobic fitness
- increase intensity of anaerobic sessions for older athletes
- build general strength
- progress existing speed skills
- enjoy training and racing… it’s still important!
WHO
We hope that members of the Development Group will aspire to progress to this group. Members of this group are…
- committed athletes who, in most cases, have chosen athletics as their main sport
- capable of making a Middlesex age group XC team or of medalling in a Middlesex Track Championship (or equivalent for other counties)
- at the vast majority of training sessions and let Noel know in advance if they can’t make it to make alternative arrangements
- male or female and typically U15 or above
Membership of this squad is at the discretion of Noel and Dave.
Membership of the Performance Group is open to members of athletic clubs other than St Mary’s Richmond. We believe that by having good standard athletes train together they can push each other on to higher levels, and as coaches we want to work with the best athletes regardless of club. Athletes waning to join the smrac distance coaching set-up should contact Noel and would need to join St Mary’s 2nd claim to get access to the track.

Punctuality is important. If you’re not on time you may not be able to join in so if you rely on public transport give yourself plenty of time to get to training!

Brilliant results!
Thanks for all your encouragement Noel!
…and well done to Noel for coaching these guys and getting the best out of them! Great work Coach!
7 out of 7… and a mention for SMRAC
6 wins now!!
Excellent documentary! Shame he didn’t get to run at London.
UPDATE – U13/U15 races cancelled.
U17 and above still on.
Yes, still on at the moment. They will make a final decision on Friday morning but have invested in lots of space blankets. With the course set to be ok, I think they are most concerned about the temperature for officials stood out there all day.
Have heard through Stragglers that Surrey is definitely going ahead on Saturday. (for now at least).
February 2009’s Surrey league race was cancelled due to snow however I have been told that the cancellation of this race was by the council and that won’t recur as it has been agreed that they don’t have authority to cancel.
Kenya – Les coureurs du Siecle
I’m not an athletics book, but I still might buy it (if I knew what it was called).
Interesting read Noel and the 15,000 miles before 18th birthday reminds me of a Simon Lawson quote with regards to his high mileage, he doesn’t see why he ’should give Africans a ten year head start’.
Good to see you guys out in force and the podiums will be a good advert for the club.
I’ll be writing my report over the weekend, look out for it!
Good Luck,all of you!
The Old Deer Park meeting point is the section of grass at the top of the slope by the A316 and the swimming pool. The Twickenham Green meeting point is the corner of the green nearest the Prince Blucher pub.
Is the flag by the clubhouse where you meet?
Sorry we are on holiday I think Adam has told you but am just confirming
Many thanks
Jackie

Brilliant everyone!!
Hi Ross – what a fantastic season you have had! I can’t believe I was running alongside you for a few metres back in the cold of Feb/March.
Keep at it – you can go alot quicker in the coming years.
Enjoy! And of course what a great coach you have!!
cheers
Ian
