English Schools – record number selected

In previous years we have either had one or no athletes competing at the championships; five have been named on teams this year. This is an outstanding achievement and a credit to both the individuals concerned but also the squad as a whole. Things have really moved on this year and we are progressing well towards our aim of taking athletes all the way along the competition pathway and turning good young athletes in to competitive senior athletes.

MIDDLESEX SCHOOLS

Jivendra Singh - JB 800 - bottom year in his age group but currently the fastest Y8 in the UK and top 10 among the U15s. This will be a fantastic learning opportunity when it comes to progression through the rounds.

Rebecca Killip - JG 1500 - the same age as Jivendra and currently 2nd fastest Y8 in the UK. 15th in her age group at the time of writing. A place in the final would be an amazing performance.

Bradley Goater - IB 1500 - also has the National Qualifying Mark at 3000m. Ranked 16th in the UK at 1500 and learnt a lot from the Southerns. A few 800s will have him in pb shape and looking for a place in the final.

Jack Killip - IB 3000 - 8th in the UK. Should look to match that at the schools and pick up points for the team.

Rebecca Killip - better on the flat!

Ross Franks - SB 800 - the only current smrac distance athlete to have been to the schools before (4th last year). Does well in championships and will expect to get through the heats and push for a place in another final.

SURREY SCHOOLS

Maddie has the qualifying mark for the steeplechase and is currently ranked 6th in the country of those eligible to compete.   If she went to school in Middlesex she'd be on the team, however she has not been picked for a very strong Surrey team unfortunately.  Next year we'll make sure.....
