Molly wins and 13 make the Middlesex team
A successful day for SMRAC distance saw 13 athletes named to the Middlesex team for the English Schools Championships.
The outstandingly talented (!) Ben Killip got things off to a good start winning the Y8/9 race; not bad in only his 2nd race of the winter. Ben is also a goalkeeper at the Chelsea academy and national kayak champion. Jivendra made his first schools team in 5th. Jamie was a little disappointed not to make the team but he'll be there for sure next year.
Rebbecca Killip was 4th (2nd Y8) in the girl's race. Josie had her best run to date with 5th just behind Rebbecca. It was great to see these two charging down the straight together and Josie finally fit and healthy - lots more to come I'm sure. Ella finished 7th and was named on the team to earn her hoodie. There were lots of other SMRACkers well up in the race..... Bella, Hollie, Anna, Nina. I'm bound to have missed people as I haven't seen the results yet.
Molly produced another great run to win the Y10/11 race. Lauren was third, Emily 4th (fantastic, well done) and Jocelyn 8th (I told you months ago...!) to ensure that half the team comes from our training group. The first three all beat the 6th form girls too. Florence (9th) and Katie Bryant (10th) were close to the team and may yet make it as they are on the reserves list. Lucy was 4th of the 6th formers.
Bradley was a bit disappointed with 4th in the Y10/11 boys but it was a case of job done and team made after a relatively normal session on Tuesday. Jack did what he wanted with 6th. Ed had a strong run in 12th and is on the reserves list.
In the 6th form race Ross took 3rd and will look to ease off a little leading up to the Surrey clubs. Adam was 9th (as in the clubs) so will have to wait and see as another reserve.
In the Y7 races there were lots of SMRAC faces and a lot of Richmond athletes who it would be good to see at the club. Well done to all the club's athletes in these races and we hope to see you at club races soon!
With Tomm Daborn already on the London team and Maddie (fingers crossed) likely to be on the Surrey team, it looks like we'll have 15 people at the English Schools Champs. Excellent stuff.
Richmond won all the girl's team competitions as well as the overall boys and overall girls titles.
